Creative Critical Reflection

To engage with our audience we used a very popular and upbeat song to really grasp the viewers attention. With them being automatically hooked, they will want to continue watching and learn what the commercial has to offer. A commercial like this would be distributed as a real media text on Youtube. A short film like this could appear before the beginning of a Youtube video. Throughout this process, my production skills developed majorly throughout this project. I went from knowing nothing about conventions and editing to knowing how to edit and utilize conventions. I also learned about cutting clips and using the IMovie software. To integrate technologies in this project we used our phones to film and laptops to edit. Once we finished filming on the IPhones we airdropped them to the Macbook where we edited on IMovie. IMovie helped us to form clips, add music, and edit. Our project used conventions by using close up shots on the AirPods and wide shots on the commercial. These scenes of a variety of Apple products represent a diverse multitude of social groups. The target audience is varied but can include teachers, students, producers, artists, and many more. Some challenging conventions were the sound. In order for us to receive the sound we needed to upload the sound from Youtube to IMovie. Another difficult convention was filming at high angle. In order to get the shot we had to climb on to the bleachers and film downwards to the track. It took multiple takes and the lightning got messed up multiple times from the sun. Although having a few challenges we embarked through them with positivity which made matters better. Overall, we have much more to learn but working this hard has gotten us pretty far.

Our Commercial

Our commercial was such a success. I am so proud of all the hard work we placed into our project with little knowledge of the film world. My group learned so many new techniques in editing and filming. I am excited to develop these skills and use them in our next project. Having a group to complete the commercial with was very fun and looking back I see that we still need to improve in some areas. However, I am so proud of what we accomplished. This project shows me how capable I am to do anything. From here on out it continuous growth. I am ready to concur the next stage! Are you ready to see what we can do?

Another Day of Editing

Editing day two began with grabbing a laptop and settling down to work. When editing today I utilized the IMovie application to gather the scenes into one video. I uploaded the recorded scenes chronologically and realized the commercial time length was too long. To resolve this problem I began removing particular scenes to make it flow and not seem choppy. In order to fulfill the 30 second requirement, some scenes had to be cut. Luckily, this wasn’t a huge issue as my group had a back up plan to remove segments if necessary. Once accomplished, some of my scenes on the track needed to be redone due to lightning and format issues. On the track the scenes were re-recorded in the same position, but close up angles were attached. We made sure that these additional clips were short so that it wouldn’t affect our commercial majorly. These angles were essential to promote and attract attention to the Apple products. These new scenes were then added and edited into the film. As a conclusion to our commercial, the logo and company name was constructed into a motioned picture. The word “apple” was written in a bold text and the logo was placed next to it. The last clip acts to grab the audience's attention to the company. My final mission was to place a song over the clips. We choose “Don't Run Away” by Tyler James Williams as it expresses a loving and upbeat tone. Apple is known for their vibrant commercials that bring others together. IMovie automatically applies the song to the video. Finally, filters were placed onto the commercial to make it look aesthetic. This part added differentiation and the final second count of the commercial was 30 seconds.

Our First Editing Adventure

Today we began by gathering all the clips we had filmed and reviewed them. Today Riana was not here to assist us in editing so it was difficult to make certain decisions without her. To fix this issue we communicated with each other throughout the class period. As Riana is the main editor we depend on working on her Apple computer for the IMovie application. Since we did not have this available to us today we directed our attention to other activities we needed to work on. I first began by deleting any scenes that came out dark from the sun's reflection onto it and other scenes that we did not need. We noted that there was too much film to fit the thirty second requirement so we deducted more scenes. As we were looking over these scenes we noticed that some segments needed to be re-filmed. Jahniya and I then went back to the track to film from three other angles. There were many accidental shots and failed takes. Then I used the music platform Spotify to get an idea of which song to utilize in the commercial. Some ideas we had were "Dark Red" by Steve Lacy, "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, and "Diamonds" by Rihanna. Although these songs differentiate by there beats and meaning, they could all be applied to the commercial because of its diversity. Apple is a brand that is used globally and no matter the song the appliances implemented will be brought out because of the background story. As a group we were more fixed on using "Don't Run Away" by Tyler James Williams. Seeing that Riana was absent no clips were put together today, but we stayed productive. We were able to have a set number of scenes to work with for our next editing day together. I am ready to concur the next editing adventure and learn all about the IMovie platform. I have worked with this program and have minor experience. As a team I know we will be able to produce a wonderful commercial.

Filming Blog: From Home

Today I stayed home as I was ill, but I did work from home. On the first day of filming, we shot all of Janiya scenes, but we needed to shoot mine. Since I could not film without the help of my group members, to stay productive I began to view all the clips that we already had. While doing this I consulted with my group members on which ones we should eliminate because of lightning and other issues. After that I decided to prepare for our next filming day by gathering all the Apple products needed. I stored my IPhone and AirPods in my bag and started to plan my wardrobe. My scene consisted of running on a track while listening to music from my AirPods. To match the context of this scene I know I would need to dress in athletic wear. I then arranged an outfit to portray this athletic scene. I knew working in a very warm Florida environment would cause me to become very hot, so I decided to wear a tank top. On my day of film, the plan is for Riana to record me jogging at a variety of angles to catch the AirPods in action. We will start at one end of the track where I will get ready to jog by placing the device in my ears. As I jog, I will pace myself so that Riana can catch me from head to waist and then head to toe. With these movements we will be able to capture close ups. I will also have to run in certain directions in order to prevent the sun’s glare onto the camera's screen. Bringing comfortable shoes just in case we need to shoot multiple times is essential for my body to survive the running segments. At this point I am very proud of the filming progress we have made as a group. As for me, I have learned that in order to produce fine media every aspect matters. Incorporating this knowledge will help us to create amazing content for our commercial. I am excited to endure our next step in making our commercial.
